Work on the Town House, Avenue Square, home of Stewarton Community Council and the Stewarton and District Historical Society Museum, has suffered a serious set back as the builder working on the contract has gone into voluntary liquidation.

The refurbishment had been due for completion around about Easter this year but work on the site has ground to a halt. In the meantime the Community Council meetings and the Community Council Resource Centre continue to be housed in the former caretaker's flat at the Institute Hall (5a Avenue Street) where space is rather limited.

Most of the artifacts owned by the Historical Society have had to be kept in storage for the duration of the refurbishment and this delay will cause some disappointment.

Stewartonoline understands that the builder responsible for the refurbishment contract has gone into voluntary liquidation and that the matter is now in the hands of East Ayrshire Council's Legal Department.
