The Odd Couple Comes to Stewarton - 24 Jul 2010

...but with a twist!

The award-winning Stewarton Drama Group are all set to bring the hugely popular stage play of Neil Simon's ‘The Odd Couple' to Stewarton this Autumn ........but with a twist!

In 1986, Neil Simon re-wrote his original Tony Award winning script of ‘The Odd Couple' to create a brand new FEMALE version, replacing original male flat-mates, ‘Oscar' and ‘Felix' and transforming them into two fabulous new FEMALE lead characters ‘Olive' and ‘Florence'!

And it's this alternative rewrite of the classic comedy play that the Stewarton group have chosen to bring to their audiences this Autumn!

Tickets are expected to sell out fast for the hit show which will be presented in the theatre in the Stewarton Area Centre at 7.30pm on Thursday 7th, Friday 8th & Saturday 9th October 2010.

The play follows the escapades of cynical, wise cracking, divorcee Olive - a laid-back tomboy slob of a woman, who detests housework and cooking - as she takes pity on her friend, the totally neurotic Florence, and invites her to move into her apartment after the breakdown of Florence's marriage. Florence is fussy, manically obsessive, and a house-proud hypochondriac. There can be no Odder Couple!

The result of their union, is a highly entertaining battle of wills that mirrors their own failed marriages, and tests their friendship to the limit.

The four best friends of Olive and Florence - the sarcastic Sylvie, trendy Renee, loopy Vera and tough New York cop Mickey - feature strongly throughout the play, as each of the women is slowly driven mad by the doomed flat sharing arrangements of their mismatched, incompatible friends, the Odd Couple!

The chalk and cheese relationship of Olive and Florence is a comedy treasure trove, culminating in a fabulously funny but disastrous double dinner date with the two Spanish brothers who live in the upstairs apartment - Manolo and Hayzoos. The catastrophic evening is packed with laughs and comedy misunderstanding as the foursome try, and fail, to overcome the language barriers.

Director of the show, Laura McPherson said: "If you're looking for an entertaining evening of sheer escapism, this play could prove just the ticket!

"The Odd Couple is a fun-filled, feel-good tale of the triumph of female friendship, featuring endearing characters and some stand out comedy moments.

"Neil Simon's witty New York dialogue is slick, sharp and funny - very similar in style to the modern American sit-coms. In fact....you could say we're bringing our very own brand of "Friends" and "Desperate Housewives" to Stewarton!"

The evening will include a 20 minute interval, during which a licensed bar will be on sale.
All tickets for the show are priced at £7.00 each.

Early ticket reservations are being taken NOW by emailing Stewarton Drama Group

Tickets will be on sale from Monday 2nd August at Stewarton Library and Candy Chace, the coffee shop in the town's High Street.

Anyone over the age of 18 interested in finding about more about the group is invited to come along to an Open Evening on Wednesday 18th August from 7.30pm in the SDG Premises in the Scout Building, Corsehillbank Street, Stewarton. The Casting Evening for ‘The Odd Couple' will take place the following evening on Thursday 19th October at 7.30pm.
