Newly Reformed Stewarton United Needs Your Support
Newly reformed Stewarton United are striving to reinforce their reputation as one of Ayrshire's best up-and-coming teams but sadly are as likely to fold as they are to progress as a team.
With running costs last year of between £6000 and £7000 they really need the support of the town to continue. And Saturday October 24 sees them host a Race Night which they hope will attract the support that they need.
This important event, at The Centre, Standalane, is vital to the future of the team as running costs are set to spiral. With both Council backing and training facilities at a premium, the importance of fundraising is simple: "If we do not have successful nights like these there would be no Stewarton United" says Paul Marshall, the club's Events Organiser.
Funding came easily last year as mutually beneficial relationships with local businesses were born and fundraisers were successful. "We get a lot of support from local businesses," said Paul, continuing, "at every opportunity we try to publicise those who have sponsored and assisted us."
Not only was last year's race night event a fundraising success but it was a key moment in the Stewarton social calendar with over 200 people in attendance, enjoying a variety of activities.
This year promises to be more of the same with raffles, memorabilia auctions, disco and open bar in an evening to bring the town together.
United stalwart Steven Currie said: "A heart and soul is vital to a town - something the people can rally round and support - and United gives that to Stewarton".
