Stewarton Annick Under 14s Match Report

Stewarton Annick (1) v (3) Clyde BC League, 28 Aug 10

Squad: Millar (GK), Cooke, Beveridge (.C), Julyan, Milne, Scott.K, Fraser, Musuraca, Carruth, Muir, Williamson, Scott.O, Ronald.

It was an under strength Stewarton team that travelled to Blantyre for this league encounter.

The game started scrappy with Stewarton struggling to string passes together. Clyde took an early lead in the 10th minute when a speculative shot could only be palmed into the top of the net by the injured Millar.

Clyde held a fair bit of retention but did not score again until the 25th minute when the Clyde right midfielder got past Cooke which left Beveridge exposed with 2 players to mark. The cross come shot was hit from the bye line and again we are at a loss as to how it ended up in the back of the net with no one else touching it. Another poor goal conceded.

Stewarton were struggling against the team that finished second in the league last year and on the 42nd minute Clyde scored again. After robbing Williamson of the ball on the halfway line Clyde switched play to our left where they travelled again to the bye line and crossed the ball over into the penalty area, Williamson who had tracked back made the mistake of presuming Millar had it and the ball bounced off his back and into the net.

It took until the 61st minute for Stewarton to score which came from a penalty from Carruth after the same player was brought down in the box.

It is fair to say that Stewarton tried but failed miserably to impose ourselves in this game and Clyde was deserved winners. No excuses for being under strength as we should have still competed better.

The team will need to lift themselves for the Scottish Cup tie this Saturday at Loudoun against Mossvale St. James.
