Prizes, Prizes, Prizes - 08 Jun 2010
The annual prize giving night at Stewarton Academy, on Tuesday 8 June, was enjoyed by all who attended. The Stewarton Academy Jazz Band, conducted by Greg McGuire and two members of the cast of the School Production, Fame, provided the entertainment, while the prizes were presented by Mr Paul Wood, East Ayrshire's Instrumental Services Manager.
The prize giving evening recognises the academic and sporting achievements of the pupils at the school in all subjects. Around 200 pupils were honoured at this year's event and many more rewarded for their efforts during the in-school prize giving ceremony on Wednesday morning.
In her speech to the parents and pupils, head teacher, Sandra Leslie also acknowledged other achievements of Stewarton Academy pupils over the last 12 months, including successes in music and fund-raising and the individual sporting achievements of the Stewarton Academy pupils representing their country in Basketball, Football and Boxing.
The night is also traditionally the time when the head boy and head girl bid farewell to Stewarton Academy on behalf of their fellow school leavers, reminiscing about their six years of studying and socialising at the school. This year, head girl, Hannah MacDonald, took on this responsibility. Her speach acknowledged the valuable input of Stewarton Academy teachers, teaching assistants and office staff as well as the kitchen and cleaning staff and the bus drivers.
