First and Second for Stewarton Drama Group - 27 Feb 2010
Stewarton Drama Group have had their most successful season yet winning first and second place in the Ayrshire district SCDA one act play festival this week.
Stewarton entered two plays into the festival, both written and directed by group member Nancy McPherson. Between them they won five trophies including the "The Joe Corrie Cup" for the team placed first which was awarded for 'The Night I Danced With Cyd Charisse'.

This play also won "The Alex McGregor Trophy" for team acting.
Alison Barr, an expert at delivering a comedy line, played ‘Betty', and Linda Wilson gave a sensitive performance as ‘Miley' the attractive office assistant. The three mechanics were played by Walter Findlay as ‘Wilson', the senior fitter, David Robertson, as ‘McBride' and Jim Goldie as the apprentice mechanic, ‘Lennox'.
Stewarton's second play, 'Becoming Maggie', a two-hander starring Laura McPherson and John Allardice, won the "The Rodger Trophy" for the team placed second. They also scooped awards for stage presentation and lighting winning "The David Brown Trophy" for best stage presentationand "The George Addison Quaich" for best lighting.

Stewarton Drama Group can now look forward to competing in the SCDA Western Divisional Final at the end of March.
They are also celebrating the success of their full length play 'Ladies Day' which was performed in the Stewarton Area Centre last May. It has recently been awarded three trophies: "The Muir Shield" for the best full length play in Ayrshire; "The Jack Ireland Trophy" for the highest production marks awarded to a full length play in Ayrshire; and "The Outram Bowl" for second place in the West of Scotland for a full lenth play in 2009.
This latest success follows a win in the Ayrshire District round of the SCDA one act play festival last year for "Epitaph for a Hard Man" and a British victory the year before with "One Good Beating".
