Dream On - 06 Jan 2010
Some of Stewarton's brightest young talent recently performed, at the Stewarton Area Centre, a mixture of drama, song and dance in a colourful production of Malcolm Sircom's 'Dream On'.

The youngsters aged 10 to 16 years from Stewarton's Music Box brought Shakespeare's romantic comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream to life with some vibrant performances.

Notable performances came from Lois Wright who appropriately hammed her way through the production as Bottom the Weaver, Ashely Snaddon whose outstanding singing and acting in the part of Titania was charming and Matthew Allison who gave Oberon a broad Scots accent and attitude. Nathanael Kelly, in his first major role, made an excellent Puck.
The four star-crossed lovers, Lysander (Sarah Allison), Demetrius (Caitlin Allen), Helena (Shannon Gilchrist) and Hermia (Lisa Costigan) also gave excellent performances swinging emotionally from truest love to deepest hate.
Some of the younger members of the group also had opportunity to shine in this production with no shortage of characters for the young actors to get their teeth into. Natasha Allen as Hypolita and Jennifer Abercrombie as Theseus gave convincing performances and an entertaining tango! Lorna Smith was excellent in the role of Philostrate and (before illness caused a little re-writing of the script) Ross Davidson gave a great performance as Egeus.
One of the highlights of the show was the play-within-a-play performed by Bottom and the other Rude Mechanicals: Quince (Iona McLeod), Flute (Rachael Halliday) Snug (Louise Russell), Snout (Rebecca Welsh) and Starvelling (Christina Ritchie).
More comedy was provided by Puck's side-kicks Gino and Luigi played by Eden Morrison and Alice Welsh and by the fairies, Chloe Hume and Sophie Moore (who should also be commended for their superb singing).
Producer, Naomi Allison was assisted by Maureen Rodgers and Lydia Breaks.
