Back to School Despite The Snow? - 05 Jan 2010

EAC Says It's Doing Everything Possible To Ensure Schools Open As Planned

Stewarton Schools are due to open tomorrow, Wednesday 6th January. At present snow clearing teams are ensuring safe pedestrian access to every school and nursery in East Ayrshire, with numerous JCBs and 50 tonnes of salt and grit being used in this process. Car parks and paths will be icy and care should be taken when parking and walking in these areas. Head Teachers will also assess whether the playgrounds are safe to be used by children during the day and if necessary ‘wet weather' arrangements may have to be used.

Parents of nursery and school aged children are urged to listen to local radio and watch the Council Website for updated information.

School transport will operate on main routes, however, parents are asked to use their discretion about sending children to school where roads are known to be inaccessible. Some taxis and smaller minibuses will be unable to access outlying areas and farms.
