Area Centre Opens its Doors - 06 Sept 2008

Stewarton's new £3.5 million Area Centre is due to open on Monday September 15. In addition to community halls which allow disabled access, the building will also house the library, the police station and the rent office.
As well as the books you would expect, the library will offer DVDs for hire; free internet access; games consoles and children's activities as well as somewhere to enjoy a cup of coffee.
The main community hall includes a stage and retractable theatre-style seating for 220 people. There is also a smaller hall for clubs and groups and a fully-fitted kitchen.
The Resource Centre will continue to occupy space in the town house after the relocation of the police and council offices, sharing the premises with EACs educational and social services staff.
The Institute Hall has been deemed by EAC to be surplus to requirements and is to be put up for sale on the open market. A council report has estimated the value of the building at £100,000, the money will go to the general services account.
