Deli Wins Top Award - 14 Oct 2008
Borland's Delicatessen Ltd. also known as Deli On The Corner, has scooped the British Chamber of Commerce Most Promising New Business 2008 award for Scotland and now looks forward to the UK national awards which will be presented at a gala dinner in London in November.
The Borland's Delicatessen Ltd opened its doors two years ago and has been a hit from day one. Situated in the heart of Stewarton, it stocks an extensive range of local Ayrshire products as well as foods from the whole of Scotland and the UK. This summer, Deli On The Corner launched their new website, www.delionthecorner.co.uk, and are already seeing increased demand for their outside catering and are looking forward to a boom in their sales of hampers in the run up to Christmas.
The business has developed over the last two years providing local people and businesses with a supply of fantastic baguettes and sandwiches for lunch, a local supply of quality fine food and wines as well as all year round Hampers, Gifts and Luxury items.
The Chamber Awards 2008 sets out to identify outstanding business achievement within the UK business community. As members of the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce, Deli On The Corner entered the competition in June. Entrants for the Most Promising New Business category had to have been trading for less than three years and were judged on the basis of their performance to date in addition to their business strategies and projections for the future.
Partners Lyndsey Phillips and Dawn Borland, of Borlands' Delicatessen Ltd, Deli On The Corner, were presented with their prestigious award at the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce AGM on Tuesday September 23 and head down to the Chamber Awards gala dinner, where the UK national awards will be announced, on November 27.
This year's event is being held at the Natural History Museum in London and will be hosted by TV presenters Dermot Murnaghan & Sian Jones. As the Scottish regional winner, Deli On The Corner is in the running for the Most Promising New Business UK award. The UK winners of each of nine award categories are also contenders for the Outstanding Business Achievement 2008 award and a grand prize of £50,000.
When asked about the secret of their success, Lyndsey and Dawn said, "It's bringing good quality affordable products to the consumer and supporting local suppliers."
"Our main attraction is our customer service and team spirit. We don't have staff, we have friends. It is all about teamwork."
